Farm News & Reflections

The Blenheims - so good while they lasted!

Our regular farm events always remind me that, beyond the profit and loss analysis, there is value in experiencing the pleasure of real food when we get to smell, touch, and taste it right there in the field or orchard where it's growing.  This pleasure value is often difficult if not impossible to quantify.  It is the small, often spontaneous experiences, which manifest when we harvest, cook, eat or just simply spend time, alone or as a community, connecting with the nourishing soil under our feet.

Crop & Field Notes

The Padrones are back - and other goodies soon to follow!

Padron Peppers are said to have been brought to Spain from Mexico by Franciscan monks in the 16th century, where they were then adapted to the soils and climate of Galicia near the town of Padron, after which the peppers are named. The town of Padron is located near the Atlantic coast, where today the peppers are grown extensively in a climate probably very similar to ours. The people of Padron best describe the character of these peppers in their native Galician as "Os pementos de Padron, uns pican e outros non." (Padron peppers, some are hot and some are not.) Indeed, eating Padrones is likened to playing Russian Roulette - you never know which one you bite into will be burning hot.  Continue reading on our web site

Discovery Program

Summer Camps at Live Earth Farm

We have surpassed our Spring Fundraising goals (yay!) and have plenty of scholarships available.

Looking for a Summer Camp for the kids?  This year our Discovery Program is offering three camps:  Art on the Farm Camp, Young Farmers Camp, and Sprouts Camp.  Summer is such a brilliant time on the farm.  The experience is warm, sunny, bright, and full of flavor.  Our days are filled with fun activities designed to encourage creative expression in many different media.  We make art, crafts, snacks, preserves, garden beds, and great friends.  During the course of the week we plant, weed, harvest, water, cut, cook, can, weave, print, paint, all in the beautiful setting of Live Earth Farm.

There's even a 10% discount for CSA members, returning campers, siblings and coupon holders (only one discount may be applied per family).  Regular price of $350 per camper.
