"My grandson Robbie and his "Poppy," my husband Peter, went to Camp Sloper today for
an "Eco day" ...  I don't know who enjoyed it more...."
"I'm thrilled that the partnership with the
schools is providing such exciting hands on experiences for our kids.  Yeah,
start them now and they will be looking through dead leaves and crawling in the
mud for years."  Kudos to your team.  It was not their average day at school."

SPELLING BEE RESULTS

What a night! The SEF's Third Annual Community Spelling Bee was a tremendous success, raising $10,000 and with the most teams yet participating.

Thirty teams were in the mix - our most yet and the goal number for the event.  Schools district-wide were represented as were many community groups and businesses such as the Chamber of Commerce, the Southington Citizen and St. Dominic Church.

Thank you to all of our supporters - from our various Bee teams to our audience members to our corporate sponsor, Pop's Original Burgers & Fries.  A special thank-you to returning Bee Master Joe Furey, meteorologist with Fox News.

For the second time, the Bee-lievers of Plantsville Congregational Church, made up of Liz Douglas, Susan Koenig and Linda Lindsay, proved they were the best spellers of the bunch.  The Bee-lievers also took home the coveted trophy during the premier year of the annual spelling bee.  Last year's winners, the Totally Dominant Bank Spellers, were not able to perform a repeat.

However, it should be noted that the Word Wizards, made up of Southington Education Association members, were the runners-up for the third year in a row!  In the final round, the word "Sergeant" knocked out two teams and the word "Millennium" proved to be the word needed to win.   -read more
