H�0 Zone Set to Open for Summer - Summer kicks off on Saturday, May 25 with the opening of the H�0 Zone Water Spray Park, located at Tattan Park next to the Bailey Recreation Center.  Kids are sure to have tons of fun this summer as they play under a large tumble-bucket, shoot water cannons, and play with a sea serpent and even a helicopter that sprays water from the rotors. The Spray Park, will be open daily from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m., WEATHER PERMITTING.

 

Wayne-Westland Parks & Recreation Hosts "Kids Night Out" - Children between the ages of 6 and 13 are invited to the Wayne-Westland Community Center, located at 4635 Howe Road in Wayne, on Saturday, May 25th from 6-10 p.m. for swimming, games, pizza & pop and more.  The cost is $13/resident, which includes Westland residents.  For more information, please call (734) 721-7400.

 

Wayne-Westland Honors Military Members with Memorial Day Parade - The Wayne-Westland Veterans Parade Council will hold their annual Memorial Day Parade on Sunday, May 26 at 1 p.m.  The parade, which honors the men and women that have served and our currently serving our military, will start at the Wayne Ford Civic League parking lot, located at 1645 S. Wayne Road and head north on Wayne Road then west on Ford Road to City Hall where there will be a short memorial wreath ceremony.

 

Memorial Holiday to Alter City Hours and Rubbish Pick Up - City offices, including the library, recycling center and 18th District Court, will be closed on Monday, May 27 in observance of the Memorial Day holiday.  There will be no rubbish or recycling pick up on Memorial Day and it will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.  The historical museum and recycling center will also be closed on Saturday, May 25 and the library will be closed on Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26. 

 

Mr. Mike's Grill Hosts Fundraiser Dinner & Silent Auction for Fallen Westland Firefighter - A Fundraiser Dinner & Silent Auction will be held on Tuesday, May 28 from noon - 8 p.m. at Mr. Mike's Grill, located at 6047 N. Wayne Road, for the family of fallen Westland Firefighter Brian Woehlke.  The cost is $10/person for an all-u-can-eat pasta bar & salad bar, with 50% of all money raised going directly to the family.  For more information, please call (734) 729-6453.

 

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location:

  • The Westland City Council will hold a Study Session on Tuesday, May 28 at 6 p.m. in the Council Conference Room, to discuss the Westland Summer Festival.
  • The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) will meet on  Thursday, May 30 at 8 a.m. in the Council Conference Room.

  Westland Farmer's Market Held Every Thursday - The Westland Farmer's Market will be held from 3 - 7 p.m. every Thursday in the City Hall Parking Lot, located at 36601 Ford Road.  This is the ultimate site for farmers, growers and producers to sell their own products directly to the public.  For more information, please visit www.cityofwestland.com of call Lori Fodale, Economic Development Director at (734) 467-3264.

 

Cyclists, Skaters, Runners & Walkers Enjoy Hines Park Traffic Free - Saturday's in the Park have returned to Hines Drive and offers visitors the opportunity to walk, run, skate or cycle safely from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. without the concern of motor vehicle traffic.  Hines Drive will be closed every Saturday from Ann Arbor Trail to Outer Drive through September 8, 2013.  For more information, please call (734) 261-1990 or visit www.parks.waynecounty.com.
