Michigan Pet Fund Alliance Mission
The single mission of the Michigan Pet Fund Alliance is to stop the killing of healthy and treatable homeless cats and dogs in Michigan shelters.

We are an all-volunteer organization collaborating with shelter and rescue organizations to achieve No Kill through training, technical assistance, education and advocacy.

Research Your Charitable Organizations

Dear Friend of Animals,

Do you want to spark some lively debate at the Thanksgiving table? Ask your friends and family if they really know how their charitable donations are being used, and let them know that there are ways to check.

In this season of giving, careful donors want to ensure that their contributions are being used effectively by conscientious organizations. How can you know for sure?

One way is to verify that an organization is registered as a 501(c)(3), compliant with
Guidestar Silver

IRS reporting, committed to transparency, and has a published mission statement and impact summary. Use Guidestar to research a group's financials, 990 forms (required by the IRS), programs, and reviews. Click here to see Michigan Pet Fund Alliance's Silver Guidestar rating. Use the Guidestar search feature to review other organizations.

Are you considering donating to an animal shelter or humane society?

Use the Shelter Save Rate Reportcreated by Michigan Pet Fund Alliance using Michigan Department of Agriculture's annualshelter reportsto view the performance of shelters. Or consider supporting those award-winning shelters who are absolutely doing the best job with donated funds.

Would you rather donate to a rescue group, many of which pull animals from shelters and keep them in foster care until permeant loving homes are found?

Although the state of Michigan does not require rescue groups to be registered or licensed, MPFA has developed a voluntary certification program for rescue groups who commit to follow best practices, code of ethics, and collaborate with other rescues and shelters. Consider donating to one of the Michigan Certified Rescues here.

Of course, you are always encouraged to support Michigan Pet Fund Alliance's mission of ending the killing of Michigan's homeless healthy and treatable dogs and cats.
