Hartbeat Ensemble: 'Workin For A Livin'

**This program will be held at Washington Street Coffee House, 13 Washington Street, New London, CT 06320

 

Learn about the everyday experiences of everyday work with a performance  

of work-related vignettes created by Hartbeat Ensemble and based on interviews  

with real people. From a coffee shop barista to teens sharing their hopes, dreams  

and fears about entering the workplace, the performance gives a glimpse into the world of contemporary work life.

An audience talkback session follows the performance.

grantmakers and 2.3 million grants?  Grant funds for individual endeavors
such as education, research and business pursuits are not that easy to find. 
Attend this class to learn about the Foundation Grants to Individuals
database, GrantSpace.org and other helpful resources.  A working knowledge
of the Internet and Windows are needed for this hands-on session.

Book Discussion - The Justice Imperative

A dedicated group of professionals from the fields of law, academia, business, religion and corrections took a unique  

approach to the problem of mass incarceration in Connecticut  

and the United States. They wrote a book together. And they  

want to share their findings with you.

 

Hear from one of the authors how this process took place, what  

concerns you should have as a citizen and taxpayer.  Where is  

your money going? What is it doing? Are communities safer? Are  

we being smart on crime or simply paying lipservice to being "tough"  

on crime? Take this opportunity to engage in a conversation about  

one of the most important civil rights issues of our time in the 21st century.

Julie Griffin, a freelance paranormal photographer, will be presenting her multimedia program Ghostly Photographs: true ghost stories you can see with your own eyes. This paranormal  

photographer will tell the tales behind her very real "ghostly" photos  

that she will be showing. They range from illuminated balls of energy  

to full body apparitions.

Celebrate Dictionary Day by reading...what else? The DICTIONARY! Learn some new vocabulary words and share them with friends in a game of Mad Libs.

 

Dictionary Day is in honor of Noah Webster, considered the Father of the  

American Dictionary. Noah Webster was born on October 16, 1758.

The objective of the day is to emphasize the importance of dictionary skills   

and improve vocabulary. Noah Webster began writing his dictionary  

at the age of 43. It took him 27 years to finish! In addition to traditional English  

vocabulary, it contained uniquely American words.
