Experience the Joy of Christ at The Well                         October 29, 2014
From Our Pastor . . .

I'm not sure how long Pastor Appreciation Month has been a thing, but Christie and I are truly humbled and honored by the cards, letters, texts, Facebook posts . . .  that we have received over the last few weeks.  It is such a blessing to be in ministry with you, and to have the opportunity to form deep and abiding friendships with so many joyful people.  The Well is certainly the place to be!

The November harvest is almost here, and now we turn our thoughts to food. Tough, I know.  Over the next three weeks we will explore Jesus' teachings during a great dinner party recorded in Luke 14.  "Food for Thought," will challenge us to think about who we are called to invite to the table, how to gather them together, and why we are called to set the table in the first place.  Our youth are already thinking about the power of food.  Coming up later this month our youth will fast for 30 hours to raise awareness of world-wide hunger.  Then they will break their fast by serving the hungry of our own community.  What an inspiring lesson for us all!

Before your next meal give thanks to God for the harvest, give thanks to those who have made your meal possible, and ask the Holy Spirit to inspire you and empower you to fight the good fight to end hunger.

Grace and Peace,

Rev. Matt Rawle

Hunger is everywhere! Worldwide, 870 million people - about 1 in 8 - are hungry. To raise awareness, our youth will be fasting for 30 hours. During this lock-in they will learn about world hunger, experience it first hand and grow in their spiritual journey. After, they will attend Servolution and feed the hungry, hungry. If you would like donate to this great cause or serve with them, contact Melissa Durand. Come hungry, leave fed!!

Saturday, November 15th

We want your help with our Advent carafe this year.  We are collecting short stories, reflections, poems, drawings, or anything else that can be printed and represents Christmas in your family, your childhood, your neighborhood, or the world.  Bring a hard copy of your submission to the church, email heather@thewellumc.com, or use our online form.  Submissions are due by November 16.

Upcoming Worship Series

Jesus certainly knew how to enjoy a dinner party.  It seems Jesus never ate alone.  He ate with the lonely and outcast.  He ate with the important and influential.  On one particular occasion Jesus compared the God's Kingdom to a dinner party in which the doors were flung wide open and everyone was invited, except some were too busy to be bothered with God's abundant table.  As we turn our thoughts toward Thanksgiving, how does our table compare with God's kingdom table?  Join us beginning November 2nd through 16th for "Food for Thought," a three part series on the Parable of the Great Banquet (Luke 14).
