CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR CUGH BOARD MEMBERS

Note: ONLY individuals from CUGH member institutions can submit nominees.

CUGH is seeking nominations from our membership for six new Board Members for three-year terms that will start in March 2015.   
If you wish to nominate yourself or an individual who meets the criteria below and is not from an institution that is already represented by someone on the current Board of Directors (see below), please do the following: 
  1. Submit a brief statement summarizing why you think this person would be a valuable member of the Board.
  2. Include the nominee's bio (please keep bios brief to no more than 250 words).
  3. Nominations are Due to the CUGH Secretariat at [email protected]
    by November 5th, 2014.

The Nominating Committee of the Board will select the final candidates from the list of nominees.  Ballots with the names of the candidates will be sent back out to the Membership by the end of November 2014.Members will be asked to submit their votes by December 23rd 2014.  New Board Members will be announced at the CUGH Annual Meeting March 26-28, 2015.

 

Please note that current members of the board may be nominated and elected to serve an additional term.

Criteria:
  • Nominees will have strong leadership qualities, with demonstrated success in building a global health department/program, or have a strong leadership role in collaborating with his/her home institute's global health department/program are encouraged to submit.
  • Nominees are willing to commit to a three-year term, be involved and participate in regularly scheduled board meetings - one annual meetings in-person and remaining meetings by telephone, -- and serve on one or more board committees.
  • Nominees will add to the diversity of the current board in the following areas:  professional experience and disciplines, race, gender, and/or geographic location including low and middle-income country setting.
Responsibilities of CUGH Board Members:
  • Actively participate in the CUGH mission and purpose, and enhance positive working relationships with individual and institutional members.
  • Contribute to the shaping, approving, monitoring, and implementation of the organization's activities
  • Assess and improve the Board's effectiveness
  • Help guide and implement the organization's objectives, plans, and actions to maximize its capabilities and maintain financial security. This includes actively participating in fundraising and promotion of the organization
  • Promote the organization publicly and provide the Executive Director opportunities for the organization to be represented at events, conferences, etc. This includes opportunities for the Executive Director or another representative to speak at these events
  • Provide the Executive Director and other board members with knowledge about partnerships with other organizations and important contacts that can help in the growth of the organization
  • Maintain confidentiality about the board's meetings, financial related issues and subject matters discussed
  • Provide oversight of disclosure and transparency, risk assessment, internal controls and processes designed to promote the organization's activities
  • Provide advice and support to the Executive Director; participate in the Executive Director's annual evaluation
  • Actively participate in Board of Directors meetings and committees
  • Suggest nominees to the Board of Directors
  • Time obligation includes:
    • Attending monthly Board conference calls (approximately 60 minutes per call);
    • Participating on at least one Board committee; and
    • Attending the annual Board Retreat that coincides with the CUGH Global Health Conference.
