From Sarah

Honor flows from a humble heart. It cries out to tell the world that without Christ we are nothing; that we have no right to think that we are better than any other person. Therefore we must live as if we are the least, as if every person we come in contact with is worthy of our honor. No person should have to gain your honor. Take this passage as an example:

"Who, being in very natureGod,

did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;

rather, he made himself nothing

by taking the very nature of a servant,

being made in human likeness."

(Philipians 2:6-7)

Jesus Himself- the Son of God, made Himself nothing, nothing, for YOU. By no stretch of the imagination can I say that I deserved for Jesus give Himself for me. In light of Jesus' sacrifice we have no right but to make ourselves nothing to the people we come in contact with.

Greetings!

Welcome to the fourth devotional for Goals for Girls! If this is your first time joining don't worry! I do a quick review each time. ;)

"Goals for Girls" is a devotional once a month going through 5 key verses. Romans 12:9-13. We pick one topic or phase to go through each month. This month is "Take Delight in Honoring Each Other".  Last month's was "Be kindly affectionate one to another with brotherly love." You can read all the verses around Romans 12:9-13 to get a bigger picture.  And here is the link to last month's devo if you'd like to check that out:

Let's get going!

Take Delight in Honoring Each Other

In your notebooks/journals write out what you think this term "Take Delight in Honoring Each Other" means to you-in your own words.

If you can, picture a warm summer day, and someone brings you a cool drink and offers to give you a massage while you layout in the sun. Later that evening you turn on all the lights outside and have a dance party with your friends and family. Would you love it?! It sounds like a birthday. You would be taking delight in that day, in the sun, in the cool drink; you would be taking delight in the moment wouldn't you?

Do you delight in your family? Do you take delight in your home? What about in your job? What are things that delight you?

Maybe we need a word definition! ;) What does "delight" actually mean? Noah Webster has a cool definition.

Delight:

 1. A high degree of gratification of mind; a high- wrought state of pleasurable feeling; lively pleasure; extreme satisfaction; joy.

2. That which gives great pleasure

Mmmhmmm. Delight is a beautiful word.

Write down in your journals at least 5 things that absolutely delight you. It could be anything.

Did honoring your brothers/husbands or parents make it on that list you just wrote? (You knew where this was going!) Don't worry it wasn't on mine either.

But girls it should be on that list! We should delight in honoring others. Honoring our parents, our brothers/siblings, our husbands, and leaders in our country as well should bring us happiness and pleasure.

Paul says in Eph.5:19 we are to: "....speak to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord..."

And in 1 Peter 2:17 it says "Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king."

It mentions the word "honor" over 175 times in the Bible (Food for thought).

Honor and Glorification

Honor defined:  -High estimation; respect; consideration; reverence; veneration; manifestation of respect or reverence.

I'm having a thought. What if we were to honor each other just like we would honor Jesus, if He were to walk in our homes on a Saturday afternoon? What if we delighted in giving honor to our husbands just like we would, if a king graced our patios one evening? You know what would happen? We would be shown more respect and love (but that should not be the motivation behind our giving honor) and GOD would be glorified.

I love this verse -It's my life verse actually. It is Isaiah 26:8

"O Lord, we have waited for You;

The desire of our soul is for Your name

And for the remembrance of You."

In another version it says "our heart's desire is to glorify your name."

I want to LIVE to make Gods name know. To glorify His NAME.  What other purpose were we made for but to glorify our God in Heaven?

I think that by "Taking delight in honoring others" we will by no means be pointing, with our actions, to the Lord. Saying "No, not anything of me Lord, but all of YOU, You working through me, you speaking songs and hymns to my family, you showing kindness, you blessing, and living through me. There is no possible way on earth I can love my family unconditionally, but you can Jesus! You can help me die to self, take up my cross and follow you. And only you can love a sinner through me."

You will have the joy of Jesus glowing on your face and sparkling in your eyes. There is no greater beauty, then when a selfless young lady has the joy of Jesus on her face from dying to self and letting Christ live through her.

Girls, trust me, when you are surrendered to Jesus, and following His will, honoring others will come easily and happily. Taking delight in honoring each other will become a joy! But you have to make it a habit, and work on it daily.

Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us,

But to Your name give glory,

Because of Your mercy,

Because of Your truth.  Ps. 115:1
