Tourism Summit Generates New Ideas to Bring More Visitors to New York State
On May 8th, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced the launch of New York's largest tourism campaign in decades, committing nearly $60 million to grow the industry, create jobs and attract even more visitors to the Empire State.The Governor's announcement came at the conclusion of the New York State Tourism Summit, where hundreds of tourism experts gathered in Albany to discuss ideas and new ways to bring tourists to every corner of the state. As the fifth largest employment sector in New York, tourism supported 714,000 jobs and generated more than $29 billion in wages in 2012. Read more...
Jane Daniels Honored as State Trail Worker of the Year
Greenway Conservancy Board Member and longtime New York-New Jersey Trail Conference volunteer has been honored as State Trail Worker of the Year in New York by American Trails, the national organization for advocacy and support of trails. On Saturday, June 1 at 11:00am, on a hill top knoll overlooking the Hudson River Valley, come join the festivities to 'inaugurate' this historic landscape. Activities to include: Displays of local parks and organizations, Unveiling of new bronze sculpture, Fort Ticonderoga Fife and Drums, Comments by invited guests, and Ruth Pierpont, Deputy Commissioner for Historic Preservation. After the event, free guided tours will be available to Saratoga Battlefield and Victory Woods.

Hudson River Days 2013!
Hudson River Day was so successful that in 2013, we're expanding the celebration from a single day to an entire weekend. This year, July 20th and 21st will feature a wide range of activities on and around the Hudson River. NEIWPCC, in cooperation with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Hudson River Estuary Program, and the New York City Department of City Planning, is soliciting proposals for development of a plan to identify the necessary scientific and technical research to advance the understanding of potential coastal green infrastructure strategies in New York City under current and projected sea-level rise scenarios.
Transportation Enhancement Program (Due 4:00, 8.16.2013)
Applications are being accepted for funding of transportation projects through the Transportation Enhancement Program (TEP). Applications must be submitted to a NYSDOT Region on or by August 16, 2013. Awards will be announced by the end of the year.

Albany History Fair
Sunday, May 19, from 1 to 5 p.m.
Historic Cherry Hill, in partnership with the Albany Heritage Area Visitors Center and Historic Albany Foundation, will present the 14th Annual Albany History Fair . Fair activities will explore the diverse history of faith and worship in the capital city, and their impact on community life, neighborhood development and the urban landscape. Presentations will be made by Jack  McEneny, noted Albany historian; Susan Holland, Director of Historic Albany Foundation; Alexandra Prince, masters candidate at the University at Albany, SUNY; and Anthony Opalka, Albany City Historian. There will also be a "Sacred Spaces Open House" at several houses of worship located in and beyond the Center Square neighborhood.
Test your luck and skill at the Hudson River Trading Game where participants use a 34-foot game board to experience the challenges of 18th century trade and travel on the Hudson River. Highlights of the day will include historical games, crafts, "show and tell" by experts of rarely seen artifacts belonging to merchant Philip Van Rensselaer of Cherry Hill and China trader Stewart Dean of Albany, and special displays of student work.
This year's fair theme is "Faith, Spirit, Community," and the event will be hosted by Westminster Presbyterian Church. Admission is free. For more information, contact Historic Cherry Hill at (518) 434-4791; historiccherryhill.org.

Wappinger Greenway Trail Extension

With a Greenway Conservancy Grant awarded in 2008, the Town of Wappinger in Dutchess County has developed more than five miles of extension trails to the existing Wappinger trail network. The Town of Wappinger has added access to amenities to such as Carnwath Farms and its trail network, Reese Cultural Center, and the Sports Museum of Dutchess County. The trail now also goes to the hamlet of Chelsea, with access to the Chelsea Yacht Club, Town of Wappinger Water Trail dock, as well as the town of Wappinger Recreation area adjacent to Castle Pointe Veterans Administration Hospital.
The Greenway is so pleased to be able to support these types of trail projects, that enhance recreational opportunities, provide access to parks and other resources, protect open space, and increase tourism in Hudson River Valley communities.
