Advancing Waste Reduction and Recycling in the Carolinas Since 1989
Making Recycling Connections
CRA's Inaugural Recycling Business Connections a Huge Success

Over 150 recycling business representatives met in Charlotte on October 15 for the first-ever Recycling Business Connections event.  The event was a huge success providing attendees with the opportunity to connect with many other recycling businesses and build new relationships all within a one-night event.

"We are very pleased with the response," said Executive Director Diane Davis. "Our goal was to pull representatives of the recycling industry from across the two states into one room. Having a diverse group of recyclers face-to-face meant more opportunities for participants to make new business connections, find new markets, and help the recycling industry of the Carolinas grow."

Check out what the RBC attendees had to say!

What a tremendous networking event.  I only wish we had more time.

I made at least 50 contacts while I was there that night.

This was a great way to meet all people in recycling across our area from all different fields of business.

We just returned from a three-day conference and have made more contacts here in three hours.

Stay tuned for more networking opportunities from CRA.

Recleim, Pepsi Bottling Ventures Announce Recycling Agreement
Recleim LLC announced that it will serve as the recycling services provider for Pepsi Bottling Ventures (PBV), the largest privately held Pepsi-Cola bottler in North America. PBV will work with Recleim to properly dispose of retired cold drink vending machines, fountain units, glass door merchandisers, and other parts and components. Recleim's exclusively licensed recycling technology enables it to recover 95 percent of PBV equipment by weight.

Under the agreement, Recleim will transport retired equipment from PBV's central distribution center in Winston-Salem, N.C., to its flagship recycling facility in Graniteville, S.C. for processing. Recleim will also provide PBV with a certificate of destruction, a traceable document that guarantees all goods received by Recleim are recycled in a way that meets or exceeds federal, state and local requirements.

"Companies want to feel confident that when they recycle equipment and parts, it will be done right," said Doug Huffer, president and general manager of Recleim. "We provide that level of assurance which is why companies like Pepsi Bottling Ventures turn to us for their recycling needs."

EPA Recognizes Companies for Electronics Recycling Efforts
The EPA recognized Best Buy, Dell, LG Electronics, Panasonic, Samsung, Sony, Sprint and Staples in Washington at a ceremony to celebrate their environmental achievements, which include diverting more than 220,000 metric tons of used electronics to third-party certified recyclers in 2013 - an increase of 7.6 percent since 2012.

Through the challenge, the EPA says it is providing a transparent and measurable way for companies to endorse safe and environmentally protective practices for the refurbishment and recycling of used electronics and to publicly show progress toward recycling goals.  Visit the Sustainable Materials Management Electronics Challenge for more information.
