You're invited to our 6th Annual PizzaFest & Silent Auction!
Saturday, November 15
4:00 - 7:30 pm

Come eat to your heart's content at the Children's Museum of New Hampshire's 6th annual PizzaFest and Silent Auction. The event, sponsored by D.F. Richard Energy and People's United Bank, will be held from 4 - 7:30 pm, and all proceeds benefit the museum's innovative education and outreach programs.

 

PizzaFest attendees will be able to sample as much pizza as they like -- including plain cheese and many specialty varieties -- then vote for their favorites in the categories of Kids' Choice Cheese and Grown-Ups' Choice. A designated judging panel will crown the Judges' Pick for Best Pizza, Best Crust and Most Creative Toppings.

 

Ten restaurants have already confirmed participation: Weeksie's Pizza, Terra Cotta Pasta II, Strafford House of Pizza, Papa Jay's Pizzeria, Papa Gino's, La Festa Brick & Brew Pizzeria, Kendall Pond Pizza II, Dover House of Pizza, Domino's and Chuck E. Cheese

 

This year's Silent Auction at PizzaFest will offer dozens of great gift ideas for family and friends. Items up for bid will include original art, getaways, tickets to area attractions, toys and books for kids, and popular regional restaurant gift certificates.

 

This event is family friendly but adults on their own are also welcome. The cost of admission to PizzaFest is $10 for adults, $7 for children ages 3-10, and children under age 2 are free.

Exploring Our Way Autism Partnership Program
Sunday, November 2
10 am - 12 pm

Families raising children on the autism spectrum are invited to enjoy exclusive time in the Museum on the FIRST Sunday morning of each month in a safe and understanding environment. When the Museum opens to the public at noon, families are welcome to stay as long as they wish. There is no cost an preregistration is not required.

 

Special resource guest this month: Certified music therapist Marissa Ruffini of Sonatina Music Therapy will be here to talk with parents about the benefits of music therapy for children with autism, and she will lead a sample 30-minute music therapy class. All are welcome!

Storytime is back for the school year! Join lead educator Meredith & local musician singer/songwriter Stu for stories, songs and a hands-on craft on the FIRST Sunday of each month. Included with museum admission.

The First Friends Playgroup for children ages birth-two years is a drop-in opportunity for parents and babies/toddlers to play together in the museum's Early Learning Landscape area on the second floor. Lead Educator Meredith Lamothe, MLIS will offer Baby "Lap Sit" Storytime each week during this time as well. Learn important early literacy skills to practice with little ones and enjoy some rhymes, puppets, songs, and stories. This program is free for museum members and babies under 1 year old; non-member adults and older children pay standard admission.

Wee Ones Class
for children ages 2-4 with a parent or adult partner
Wednesdays, November 5, 12 & 19 (no classes 11/26)
9:45 am and 10:45 am

Drop in with your 2-4 year old for play, learning and socialization with a new theme each week. Children's Museum Education Coordinator Xanthi Gray leads these sessions that include circle time, songs, movement, craft project, snack and story. Two 45-minute classes are offered each week: the first class begins at 9:45 am and the second class begins at 10:45 am. Classes are limited to 12 children each.


 
The cost for each adult/child pair is $7 for members and $10 for nonmembers. Additional children pay $5 for members or $8 for nonmembers. Due to feedback from families, we have decided to offer a WeeOnes punch card for members. For $30, we offer a 5-class punch card (a savings of $5) or purchase two cards for $55 for a savings of $15 dollars! 

Jr. Science Explorers
New Science Sessions Begin November 6th
Thursday, November 6 - December 11
(no class on Thanksgiving)

 

We are now taking registrations for new sessions of preschool and homeschool science classes that begin on November 6. Each 6-week session includes hands-on experiments, lessons and creative projects under the instruction of the Museum's lead educator, Meredith Lamothe, MLIS.

 

Homeschool Science Explorers session theme: "Phenomenal Physics!"

Physics is a science that relates to all other sciences, from biology to astronomy. This class will explore motion and mechanics, electricity and magnetism, heat, light and more via hands-on activities, experiments and demonstrations. After this class, young physicists will know a lot more about the world around them.

 

Science Explorers for Homeschoolers is open to children ages 5-1/2 - 9 years old and meets on Thursdays from 11:30 am - 12:15 pm. The cost for this 6-week class is $60 for members and $70 for non-members. Additional siblings in a family pay just $36 each to participate.

 

Junior Science Explorers session theme: "All About Weather." With winter on the way, kids are naturally curious about the science behind weather phenomena. Junior scientists will explore rain, snow, wind, clouds, the sun and more as they participate in interactive experiments, listen to stories and learn fancy scientific words.

 

The Junior Science Explorers Class is for children ages 3-1/2 to 5 years old and meets on Thursdays from 10:00 - 10:45 am. The cost is $60 for museum members and $70 for non-members, and the price includes all materials.

Make It or Break It Club
for children ages 6 - 12
Fridays, November 7, 14 & 21 (no session 11/28)
3 - 4:45 pm

Kids are invited to drop-in at this weekly workshop where kids can flex their creativity by working with real tools and cool materials. Each week, there will be a special project or material available. The cost to attend each workshop is $8 for museum members and $10 for non-members. Discounted punch cards are available for multiple visits.

Dollar Deal Night
Friday, November 7
5:30 - 8 pm

Thanks to generous sponsorship from Citizens Bank Foundation, Dollar Deal Nights are back for this school year! We open the museum for special evening hours on the first Friday night of each month with admission of just $1 per person. Come enjoy a fun, low-cost evening out where your family can explore and learn together.

 

Special this month: FoodWorks Snack-Making Workshop during Dollar Deal Night! Our friends from Hannaford Supermarkets will be here to show you how to make snack mixes that are easy to mix and bag up to take with you on the go! Recipes and nutrition information, too!

Parent-Child Workshop: Build and Program an NXT Robot Together!
Saturday, November 8
10 am - 1 pm


In this hands-on workshop for children ages 8-14 with an adult partner, each pair will build and program a robot together. The staff from LetGoYourMind will show you how to build an NXT Mindstorm robot and maneuver it around an obstacle course. Participants will take home lots of fun memories and lots of pride but the robots must stay behind. Please bring your own bag lunch. 


 
Cost: $35 members/$40 non-members per adult/child pair, $25 for second child in the same family for both members and non-members.  Limited to 15 pairs. Please call the Museum at 603.742.2002 during business hours to register. 

Thursday, November 20
2 - 4 pm

The Alzheimer's Cafe is held at the Children's Museum in Dover on the third Thursday of each month from 2-4 pm. People living with Alzheimer's disease are welcomed during this time, along with their family members and care partners, to gather in a supportive, non-clinical setting to chat, relax and socialize while enjoying complimentary refreshments. Reservations are not needed and there is no cost to attend, though donations are accepted.
Clifford at the museum
Meet Clifford The Big Red Dog!
Saturday, November 22
10 am - 2 pm

 

Come meet everyone's favorite colossal canine: Clifford The Big Red Dog! This Books Alive event is sponsored by Fidelity Investments and NH Public Television. Kids can enjoy book readings, dog-inspired math and literacy activities, a craft activity from our friends at NHPTV, and of course, opportunities to share a hug or hi-five with Clifford. He will be making appearances throughout the 4-hour event period. 

 

This Books Alive event is included in regular paid admission and FREE for museum members!

Family Gingerbread House Workshops 2014

Four sessions this year:

Get into the holiday spirit by building and decorating an ooey-gooey gingerbread house with your family at the Children's Museum of NH. We do the set-up and clean-up so you can focus on FUN!


 
Each family will start with freshly baked gingerbread house pieces and royal icing, then you can choose from a wide variety of candy and edibles to decorate your house. We'll be playing holiday music and serving cider and cookies at the end of each session, adding to the festive, memorable experience.

 

The cost is $30 per family for Children's Museum members and $40 per family for non-members (up to 4 people). Additional participants in a family are $5 each.
